WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's wallet received nearly $500,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) from a mystery donor shortly after his release from the high-security Belmarsh prison in the United Kingdom (UK) on Monday for being a whistleblower.
According to blockchain data, a donation of approximately 8.2 BTC worth $492,254 was transferred from the multisignature wallet to Assange's BTC donation address as displayed on the freeassange.org website.
Recently, Assange's wife called on her followers to show their last financial support by seeking $520,000 to pay off a debt owed to the Australian government following the use of chartered flight VJ199 for her husband's journey to court.
There is no denying that the family managed to raise more than 78% of the target funds through Crowdfunder last Wednesday, but the BTC donation they received on Tuesday already covered almost the entire debt expense.
It was revealed that Assange was released back to Australia immediately after pleading guilty in court to a charge of espionage, however Judge Ramona Manglona stated that no real physical harm occurred due to his actions.
Despite not directly claiming credit for the donation, internet personality Andrew Tate who responded with a gift emoji to someone has caught the eye.
However, the skeptical online BTC community has called on Tate to personally sign the transaction to prove his control over the sender's address amid observers also noticing claims from another wealthy personality, Jack Dorsey.
This is because Dorsey tweeted "Safe pass through" on X's social media account plus he spearheaded various BTC infrastructure initiatives and repeatedly donated money to developers including holding BTC on his firm's balance sheet.
