Impersonating Bitcoin Creator Craig Wright Sentenced to Prison

Craig Wright, the Australian computer scientist who claims to be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, is facing a year in prison.

On Thursday, a court sentenced him to prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years.

The sentence follows Wright’s $1.2 trillion lawsuit against Jack Dorsey’s payments company Block.

The massive lawsuit seeks to bolster his claim that Bitcoin and its technology belong to him.

However, London’s High Court in May firmly rejected the claim, ruling that it was completely unfounded.

More embarrassingly, the court revealed that Wright had forged documents to support his claim.

Criticism also came from the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), which described the lawsuit as a “publicity stunt” to garner attention for his false claims.

COPA also claimed that Wright had violated a previous court injunction prohibiting him from bringing Bitcoin-related litigation.

The decision not only tarnished Wright’s image, but also sparked heated debate in the crypto world, especially as Bitcoin’s price soared above $100,000.

While Wright plans to appeal, this episode seems to close another chapter in a long drama involving Bitcoin’s history.

From ‘Satoshi Nakamoto 2.0’ to prison inmates, Wright is now learning that not all claims can be settled with trillion-dollar lawsuits.
